How do telehealth sessions work?

Our clinicians are licensed to provide therapy to residents of New York and Illinois. If you live in either state, we can work together via telehealth no matter which city you're in.

What happens in a free consultation?

It's a relaxed 15-minute phone call. You'll share a bit about what's bringing you to therapy, we'll explain how we work, and we'll decide together whether we're a good fit. There's no pressure and no obligation.

How long are sessions, and how often do we meet?

Sessions are typically weekly, especially at the start. Consistency is where momentum comes from. As you make progress, we can space sessions out. We'll decide on a rhythm that fits your goals.

Do you accept insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider with all insurance companies and can provide an invoice for you to submit for reimbursement. Most people are also able to use their HSA or flexible spending account card to cover session fees.

Why work with an out-of-network therapist?

Paying out of pocket for therapy can offer privacy benefits: there is no diagnosis on your medical record and no vulnerable session information submitted to your insurance company. Insurance benefits often limit the number of sessions, and a high deductible may mean you are paying fees out of pocket anyway. Many plans have strong out-of-network benefits that reimburse session fees.

How long does therapy take?

It depends on your goals. Some people come in for focused work over a few months; others stay longer for deeper change. Either way, you'll have a clear plan early on, because we don't believe in therapy that drifts.

My partner is hesitant about couples therapy. Is that normal?

Accepted Answer

Very. It's common for one partner to be more ready than the other. A free consultation is a low-stakes way for a hesitant partner to ask questions and see that therapy isn't about blame. It's about getting unstuck.
